15.10.2022 Cancel the Debt - Day of Action in Geneva

The Global South is being choked by huge debts to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. To repay the debt, countries in the Global South must increase their fossil energy production.

The indebted countries are the ones least responsible for the climate crisis. Those who profit from their debt are also the ones who caused the climate crisis.
The debt system is nothing but a continuation and perpetuation of colonialism.

Action day in Geneva

To draw attention to the problems of the debt system, we are organising a colourful protest in Geneva, where the World Bank has a headquarters. On this day, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank hold their annual meeting. It is also the 35th anniversary of the assassination of Thomas Sankara. He was killed because he opposed colonial debt-trap diplomacy.
